How to Form It (Affirmative)
The Present Continuous is made with two parts: the verb "to be" (am, is, are) and the main verb plus "-ing." The structure is Subject + am/is/are + verb + -ing. We use 'am' for 'I', 'are' for 'you/we/they', and 'is' for 'he/she/it'.
- Subject + am/is/are + verb + -ing.
- Use 'am' with 'I', 'are' with 'you/we/they', 'is' with 'he/she/it'.
Spelling Rules for -ing
Most verbs simply add -ing, like 'play' becomes 'playing'. If a verb ends in -e, you drop the -e and add -ing, for example, 'write' becomes 'writing'. For verbs ending in a single vowel + a single consonant (CVC), you double the last consonant and add -ing, like 'run' becomes 'running'.
- Most verbs add -ing.
- Drop -e, then add -ing.
- Double consonant for CVC verbs.
