Using CAN for Ability

We use CAN to talk about abilities. It tells us if you are able to do something. For example, 'I can swim' means you know how to swim. 'He can run fast' means he is able to run quickly.

CAN Stays the Same

The good news is CAN is very easy! It does not change for different people. You always use 'can' after the person (I, you, he, she, it, we, they) and before the action word. For example, 'I can jump,' 'She can jump,' 'They can jump.'

When You CANNOT Do Something

If you are not able to do something, you use CANNOT or CAN’T. CAN’T is a shorter way to say CANNOT, and they mean the same thing. In Slovenian, this is like 'ne morem' or 'ne moreš.' For example, 'I cannot fly' or 'A dog can’t talk.'
