Learning New Words
We have many things in our classroom. A book is for reading. A pencil is for writing, and an eraser helps us fix mistakes. We can draw lines with a ruler and color with crayons. Desks and chairs are where we sit.

Asking and Answering
To ask about something, we say: "What is this?" Your friend can answer: "This is a pencil." We can also talk about one thing (singular) or many things (plural). For many things, we usually add an 's' to the word, like "books" for many books.
- Ask: "What is this?" Answer: "This is a book."
- "One book" is singular. "Many books" is plural (add an 's').
